Ok here is the deal it's a Dell 2800 series server I am trying to re-use old back up tapes (overland DLTapeIV) I want to re-format and erse all the old information off of them before I start using them and everyone I put it is telling me it is write protected, even thought the switch is not in the protect position. Am I missing something?

Can you run a read/write test on those media ?
what if you try some other tape ?
Make sure your tape drive ( which one is it ?) is up to date
