I have an Epson TM-U220 printer which uses the idn interface to a Micros terminal, the issue is when the printer does not function. When the printer is powered on there is "ticking" sound coming from the cartridge head. The self-test does not work, the paper out light does not come on, the error light for open cover does not come on either. This issue started while the printer was performing a self-test, it stopped printing during the test and starting making the "ticking" sound.

Any solutions to fix this?

Thanks

If its failing to do a self test I'm not sure there is much you can do. Sounds like a hardware fault.

Do you want some custom SIM scripts developed. Contact me via my website

The ticking could be many things. I've had success with epson ptr's that won't self test due to the print head mechanism being too dry. Open the lid, remove the ribbon & paper and lift up the metal piece that the ribbon sits on this kinda exposes the metal shaft that the print head needs to slide back and forth on. Dip your fingertip into some cooking oil (very little, just s drop or two) or white grease if you have any and spread it on the metal shaft (metal bar) on both sides of the print head. Try a self test after that and see if that helps. If that metal bar gets too dry it will fight that print head moving. That little trick has saved folks a bunch of downtime.

The shaft is actually lubricated and the cartridge head can move along freely. I tried a main board from another printer it worked but then died in the same way during the self test.

Replace, swap the power adapter with any other epson 220 you have. You can also use a epson thermal printer power adapter PS-170, PS-180 etc. for the 220 model if the 220 is the only one you have.
