My Epson Stylus C84 has NOT been sitting idle. However, it suddenly won't print cyan or black, and magenta only with lines. The ink tanks are full, I even purchased a new black one. I've gone through every troubleshooting step in the book, phoned Epson and tried online help. They recommended a certified service center. This printer is just over a year old!

I'm hesitant to even TRY to take it apart. It's so very... plastic and fragile looking! Can I salvage this brand-new printer, or should I just buy a Lexmark?

Run it through a BUNCH of cleaning cycles - trying to get the print heads unclogged (lines in print usually mean clogged heads. If that doesn't work, you can try swappig the print heads with a qtip wetted with rubbing alcohol.

Using OSX 10.3.8 on a G4

I've done the print head cleaning routine 5 times in a row.... MORE? :-O

A bunch? I've done it 5 times in a row, should I run it MORE? :-O

I would go for the q-tip technique, and then run the clean routine again.

Make sure the q-tip isn't totally soaked with alcohol - you only need it damp enough to remove the clog.
