I am having problems getting the status monitor(3) to work with my epson printer. The printer works fine, but when I try and run the status monitor it can't find the printer and eventually gives me a communication error. I am running XP sp1 and have tried it on my laptop running the same version (same cable, software etc.) and it works fine. I have downloaded all the latest drivers, updated the motherboard (Abit BL7) BIOS, unplugged avery other USB device (I've also tried it with a paralle cable - EPP/ECP turned on), tried it in a USB2.0 add-on PCI card and nothing works.
I am pulling my hair out!
Can anyone help?

is it the latest version of status monitor? seems like you updated everything but the problem software.

Yes, tried that. Checked the Epson site and I already had the latest version!

Does it work if you do the logon as the local administrator of the machine?

The Account I'm using is set up as administrator, but I've tried as a Local Administrator as well.

Did you install as local administrator?

The reason I'm asking is that you may have to make a local policy edit to allow a service to be initiated and run for a non-local administrator user.
