Epson M129A not printing after power surge

We have a old Micros 2700 system. We also have a M129A TM-T88 Epson printer connected to it with what looks like a phone line. I assume this is the way it communicates with the 2700. Today we had a power surge and now the printer will not work. It powers on but when we ring up a sales it does not print. I tried the system reset for the micros 2700 but still nothing printing. On the back of the printer there are 3 ports, all are phone jack ports. I am not sure now after someone disconnected the line which port to connect the line to in the back of the printer. There are 2 close together and one over to the side. On the back of the printer there is a green light that is flashing. Not sure what that means. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Do a reset on the printer.
Hold down the feed key and turn it on at the same time. It will print a self test. After it does its self test turn it off and then back on, and try it again. Many times this will unlock the comm port if it is locked from a power surge.

I tried it many times. It will not work. It still shows it is not on line. Do you know how to check to see if the system is online ? The printer test works fine. Tom

Don't know anything about Micros communication. Try switching the printer to known good terminal and find out if it is the printer or the comm port on the terminal.

Never plug the cable into the single port! That's a cash drawer port and it can damage the 2700 terminal if you connect the cable to it. The IDN interface is most likely damaged and needs replacement. To check it, be sure comm cable is plugged into either of the ports that are side by side. Put 2700 into diagnostics, Mgr key in & turned, power off, hold down "ENTER" button, power on & you're into diags.
Choose output, printer, IDN, print, it'll ask for the ptr #, it's most likely 01, or 02

That test will indicate if the ptr IDN works. Leave diags by doing a system reset. If you get an error buy an IDN card and replace yourself, Micros charges a lot of money for them.

TobeThor, there have been way to many people trying to fix this POS. I have tried to hold them from it but you know how things go sometimes. We have to do our end of year report Wednesday and what a time for this old machine to fail. All the data has to be printed and took to the higher ups for them to see how much business we did. Our fiscal year ends on the Th so you see what jam we are in. I know for a fact that another person, not me, plugged the comm cable into that port you mentioned not to. I am also betting that the IDN interface is damaged. Where would I buy the IDN card. I cannot find anyone in our area that knows anything about this old machine. I guess I can look on ebay ? I can replace it myself. You have been great help to me in the past on this thing. I will let you know what I find tomorrow and post back. We are looking at buying something to replace the 2700 with. Someone today mentioned Sharp ER-A420.I do not know anything about one but will research it. Thanks again and I will return with my find. Tom

I tried the test and before I could do a system reset I got this error
Responce Timeout From Printer
I assume the IDN interface is defective.

The port on the printer was bad. I bought a new card for the printer and it is now back up and running. Thanks for all the help. Tom

Thanks for letting us know the results, success stories are always welcome.

PS: to all Micros users that have those nasty Micros IDN cards in their printers. Do yourself a favor and stop at Radio Shack or good electronic store and buy some RJ12 "Blank" plugs. Put those plugs into the cash drawer port on all your Micros Epson printers. These blank plugs will prevent the port from ever being used and thus, damaging your equipment. I can only imagine how much money Micros Dealer Service Dept's have made due to this very common scenario. Those plugs which cost approx .40 can save Micros users thousands of dollars.
