I manage about 1500 clients, 4.5 SP1 and 4.5.1SP1 w\EPO2.5. All were created originally with Installation Designer with one AutoUpdate site setup. I have rolled out the agents to the clients. I have configured AutoUpdate tasks within EPO Console, so that the clients will Autoupdate from their local File Server.

My question is since these clients already have an Autoupdate task defined.....How does EPO handle this task? Does it overwrite the task? Do both tasks execute?

Thanks for your help in Advance!

Unless the local task has a schedule set, it will not execute. Therefore, since the ePO task is a scheduled one, this will take precedence. However, if both are scheduled, both will be executed as well.

Yes the local task is scheduled... Is there anyway to delete this local task from EPO? If not is there any concerns I should have with two tasks running. The only one I can see is bandwidth...Please let me know if I'm correct in assuming this, or if there is anything else that could be a problem. If I schedule my EPO Auto Update before the local task AutoUpdate, how much network traffic would be created by the local Task AutoUpdate to find that the current DAT is already in place?

Thanks Again!

Though not in all cases, the local task is the one that shows up in the VirusScan Console. I haven't seen any pattern yet on when the ePO task shows up on the console.

As for network traffic, the only traffic being generated would be:

1. Check connectivity to the update site
2. Download DELTA.INI (to see how many incrementals to get)

If the DATs are the same, the task closes. So basically, it's not gonna create more than 25K (assumption based on the size of the DELTA.INI file) total traffic.

Thanks Chap, That eases my mind. I'd also like to know what variables govern when an EPO Task shows in the console. On the machines that I tested on the EPO AutoUpdate Task replaced the Local Autoupdate task.... I've seen this on a Win2k running 451SP1 and a 95 running 45SP1. I expected this to be the case for all machines but have found that most other machines that I've rolled an EPO AutoUpdate task to the local task isn't replaced.....This is what prompted my original question...
