Hi,

after Updating from 2.5.1 to 3.0.1 we have the problem that all available http connections (default = 1.000) are in use. Thus our ePO server is very slow and it is nearly impossible to work with ePO remote console. NAI told us to increase the number of working threads and the number of http connections but the problem still exists.

Any ideas?

I am dealing with this problem right now. Yes, they had me do the same yesterday but I have yet to see any changes.. I will let you know what I find out today.....

If you're running VSE7 or NS45 on the server, exclude the ePO and MSDE(SQL) directories in the On-Access scanner. This should improve the performance.

... been there, done that, made that mistake too, see where I am now.

Excluding the ePO and SQL directories does not solve this problem. Connections are still reaching the maximum limit and accessing ePo via remote console is still very very slow.

How many machines are you managing? Also, I suggest you use distributed repositories to offload the updates from the ePO server.

We are managing about 17.000 machines. We already use distributed repositories for the updates so this does not cause the problem. With ePO 2.5.1 we had a maximum of about 50 http-connections, after updating to 3.0.1 it increased to the maximum of 1000 (sometimes it goes down to 600, but only for a few minutes). We also did not change the ASCI interval so there is no reason why the number of connections increased. Maybe ePO does not close the connection after client-server communication?

The last post hit the nail on the head.. I had Mcafee out at my site last night unitl 930. Yes the 251 agent does not close the http connection once it is upgrading itself. They game me a .dll for this issue. They are going to make it a hotfix that should be relased soon.. Once we replace the old dll with the new one and restarted the services, the CPU utilization went down 80 percent...

Thanks
Mcafee....

Does this dll also fix the problem with the remote console? Right now it is very - and I really mean VERY - slow (you sometimes wait several minutes if you try to make any action).

Yes it fixes the slowness of the server.. It was taking me 10 minutes just to logon to the server.. One more thing that I did was to reapply the Compaq Nic Agents on the server. Then I reteamed the nics on the server.. Now I am running perfectly again after a week and a half.......

I got this dll last week and the problem is fixed now!

How is it possible to get this DLL, because i also have the problem with The maximum HTTP connexion, and my only solution is to restart the ePo Service.

thx

Network Associates told us to upgrade the OS's service pack to service pack 4 to solve the http connection issue. Has anyone done this with success? I am going to call NAI to get more information on the DLL hotfix.

To get the dll you have to contact McAfee support. As this dll is only a development build (means it did not pass the QA) they send it only if you ask for it.
Regarding SP4, we also found the problem on a system running SP4.

Yes, i installed SP4 before upgrading 3.0.1 but after upgrading 3.0.0, and i still have the problem.

You have to contact McAfee support to get this dll. Or you wait for SP2 (this will include the fix). SP2 should be released this month.

If you have the problem try looking at the EPO performance counters. The counters dont work when you are Term Served to an EPO server but you can run perfmon on a remote machine that has the console installed.
