Can anyone out there help me??!?!?!

In other forums people are coming back saying what's an environment variable, so i'll explain: They are parameters set by the operating system or installed programs, for example; PATH, TEMP. You can view them by typing SET at a DOS prompt.

My question is, can you read these values using Javascript (or any other scripting language). [sig][/sig]

Do you want to read environment variables on the server or client computer?

On the server computer (i.e. CGI scripts), easily with a number of languages.

Reading environment vars on the client's computer with javascript is (AFAIK) not possible. MAYBE with signed scripts, but this seems unlikely. [sig]<p>Russ<br><a href=mailto:bobbitts@hotmail.com>bobbitts@hotmail.com</a><br><a href= is in</a><br>[/sig]

Wasn't the answer i was looking for Russ but thanks anyway. It is the client's computer i need to read from.

Someone in another forum said to look at the VBscript environ() function. I'm not familiar with VBscript but i can't find any trace of this funtion. Do you know anything about it? [sig][/sig]

There's an Environ() function in Visual Basic that you can use on the server side, maybe that's what the person in the other forum was referring to.

I'm not very familiar with VBScript, so I couldn't tell you. Of course with VBScript, there's the additional issue of limiting your audience to later versions of IE.
