I was under the impression that the "envelope" tool puts a selected object and fits it into the second (closed) object. I am having problems figuring this out. Can anyone help me with this.

Thanks Chris

Either use the presets or click new and drag handles.

Thanks for your reply Alan, however I do not understand the sequience. Am I correct in my understanding of the envelope tool. If so, I am not aware of any presets and drag the handles of what??

I have read several of your replies on this site and appriciate all of your input and ideas.

Thanks, Chris

Are you sure you're not confusing it with the Powerclip function? As for the Envelope Tool, there are presets on the Property Bar or the Docker depending on what version you're using.

I am using version 12. I understand the power clip (or at least I think I do). What I am wanting to do is insert text into a object and have it conform to the object. The power clip fills it and you can't see all the text.... as an example, if I use the power clip to put text into a arrow it does not conform to the arrow, it only clips around the text. I would appriciate it if someone could go through the sequence for me.

I have seen the docker, however I can't figure out how to do it....

Thank you, Chris

Ah, you never mentioned TEXT. You said OBJECT - two totally different things. Are you trying to use Paragraph text or Artistic text? By "conform to the object" do you mean you're wanting text to wrap around the object or you're wanting text to distort altogether into the container's shape?

Thanks!!
I am using Artistic text, and would like to have it distort and go into the shape. Sorry I didn't know exactly how to explain it to you, but yes, this is what I am wanting to do. Can you explain.....

Chris

Select text - effects - envelope. Docker should appear click add preset and a series of shapes should appear, choose one if there is one suitable (can be altered br dragging handles) OR click add new - you can click on one of the 4 icons below and then drag handles about or just drag handles about for desired shape. The shape you require ie your arrow would be used as a kind of template so you knew where the handles were to be dragged to.

OK, I have worked with the envelope tool now and still have a question. When I place the artistic text into the shape, lets say an arrow, the text becomes very distorted. I had attended a workshop for corelDRAW and remember the instructor putting the text into a shape and the text confromed to the shape and I didn't think that it was distorted. As I recall, it was just a click or two and there wasn't any minipulating of the nodes. The text was very readable and was in the shape of the arrow.

The power clip seems to just be a window that cuts around the text, the text stays the same shape, and depending on the size of the text, you may not be able to see the whole thing.

What I am trying to do is put a single name, lets say "SHAWN" into a arrow shape. Can this be done or am I asking for too much.......

Thanks for any response.
Chris

Why not contact that instructor and find out what tool they used?

Make your arrow shape (convert to curves if necessary)- Select wording and click on add new in docker (note red marquee around word) - click on eyedropper icon, cursor turns to arrow - point arrow cursor to your own arrow shape, this shape appears round wording - click apply. Experiment for best effect with the 'keep lines' and other options above.
