Looking at the end of support notice above for the Center Stage Switch, I am not sure what path I would need to migrate to.

I have about 10 cabinets now running on CM 3.1 and S8710 processors. All of these cabinets are just EPN,s and I have no remote switches.

As most of you know I am just an old G3 guy and not really up on the new stuff. So what paths should I consider?

Thanks for you time and replies.

Go with the rack mounted gateways and you'll be fine. What you want to make sure of when you migrate is that you have the port networks load balanced and have plenty of resource for tone generation, etc., if you have IVRs and the like. You don't have to get rid of existing digital phones, just make sure you have proper assurances that the media processor firmware load you're running has been tested in an environment with digital endpoints. If you're adding new stuff at the same time, the price of IP phones has fallen below the old stuff. Unless, that is, you have to sprig for the gig adapters too.

The migration over to IP controlled Port Networks is really simple and not that expensive.

The only real issue you want to address is you network needs to support the new traffic you'll be putting on it. Because it will be mostly control traffic it's usually not a problem. Latency is the biggest concern.

Thanks Surakmn and simreal for your replies.

I guess you are talking about the G650 or G700 gateways. I don’t really know the difference between these. Is it capacity? I am at a hospital so we do not have any VoIP here. I am still not convinced it would be the best solution for our application. At present I am running mainly 6400 series sets behind the S8710‘s without any problems. I am not really worried about the call center stuff. I have about 125 ACD hunt members but that covers our call center applications.

Thanks for your help.

You would be looking at the G650s. Almost all of your existing cards will migrate to it. Your IPSIs will probably nned to be replaced with the BP version. Also any TN767 T1 cards will need to be replaced with TN464s. You will add the Tn2602 crossfire as a replacement to the Expansion interface cards. This is where you will be using VOIP between the EPNs.

I am just doing this now with a 17 EPN switch. It will take some planning and budgeting because of course no one has any money to do the project.

How many Tn2602 packs will the G650 hold and I need two of them?

In order to get critical reliability, you need 2 in each PN. They retail for $20,000 a piece...The G650 has 14 card slots in each carrier and you can stack up to 5 per PN, but most people do not go over more than 4, depending on your circumstances.

So if you have 10 PN's, you have $400,000 tied up in TN2602 cards...Very expensive...
