Upgraded my pc from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 last week. Phone Manager will no longer start up due to a problem with the side by side configuration. I guess that this is it for the Phone Manager app.

I realize that Phone Manager has not been updated since R4.2 and that it will not be supported in the near future as everything migrates to one-X portal. But Phone Manager always worked from R1.1 forward. You could always count on it (once you got the pc firewalls changed).

Remove the "PhoneManager.exe.manifest" file in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Phone Manager" and your "side by side" problem should be solved.

Hi, I know I'm a bit late to the party here, but I have managed to get PhoneManager v4.2.31 to work fine on Windows 8.1

The solution is actually in configuring permissions on your computer in order to allow PhoneManager through the firewall.

You will find a comprehensive discussion of the solutions (for Windows 7) here...
but the arguments apply equally to Windows 8.1

The key is to follow the instructions as follows...

RUN and type

regedit and click ok

go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BFE

Right click on it-permissions

Click on ADD and type

Everyone and click ok

Now Click on Everyone

Below you have permission for users

Select full control and click ok

Now,open RUN and type

services.msc and click ok

start base filtering engine service and then windows firewall service

There was a further post which also suggested the following (which I also did)...

In Registry Editor, browse to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess
Right click SharedAccess, and click Permissions.
Click Add.
In the “Enter the object names to select” field, type “NT SERVICE\mpssvc”. Then clickCheck Names. The name should change to MpsSvc
Click OK.
Select Full Control in the Allow column.
Click OK.

All I can say is it worked for me. It allows you to turn off the Firewall and let PhoneManager through.

Unfortunately, I know no more that this, but it's worth a try.
