Okay here's the deal guys

I am completely confused now about what i have to do to make my dv camera transfer the video i shot to my p.c

I have so far taken theese steps

1. Bought DVD rw drive for my p.c
2. Bought a Firewire card and cable
3. Connected DV Camcorder to Firewire cable
4. Entered video editing software and seen the camera is recognised
5. Became confused at the statement made by my p.c 'Check that the dv device is properly configured'

Whats worse than that is my camcorders maker, canon were no help on the phone and kept me on hold for an hour. I think that i need a driver for my camcorder (i have not installed anything on my p.c to do with my camcorder) and then im worried that the sound wont work (i have a sound card but how would i connect my dv playback to the p.c)

I really need some advice and help, i appreciate any reply i get tremendously.

Thanks

Jonny

There's nothing in the user's manual about what you need for DV transfers from your cam?

Small problem, i have no manual for it. it was a family members who gave me just the camera and charger for a small price. Its a Canon MV450i PAL camera, similar to the Zr series of NTSC.

Im using Windows XP, my p.c has a 50gb hard drive, and plenty of RAM, everything is fine with that, i think its the driver i need? you know where i can get one?

If the camera has a firewire interface, there is probably no driver or special software for the camera. It sounds like maybe the software is teeling you that the camera is not responding to its commands. Is the camera set on VCR mode when you are trying to interface? My capture software, Sony Vegas, allows me to enable or disable control of the camera in its preferences section.

You do not need a driver, as all Canon DV have "native" drivers built in to work in Mac or PC,. If the camera is "recognized", then it is the software. Try Windows Movie maker(automatically comes bundled with XP)make a small clip, then burn to the DVD. Or Call the DVD folks.
