Hi I'm working on a friends computer, and I was trying to correct the video problems. First it woudn't allow me to upgrade the resolution, its on the lowest resolution possible. So after following all of the Troubleshooting steps, I disabled the video card, b/c I believe it said the computer will recognize it and try to install itself on the restart. But it didn't.

Now the computer comes on, but no picture. I tried searching throug BIOS, but nothing stood out. Can anyone help? How do I enable the video monitor? How do I upgrade the video resolution, when I'm not connectted to the internet?

Thanks.

Melvin

boot in save mode (f8), normally the standard video driver is loaded.
i donno what happends when you disabled the graphiccard in windows, you might get a screen or not, if not u might need 2 reinstall windows
usally when u cant change resolution ur missing a propper driver for the graficcard, i.e by downloading from internet (internet cafe on usb stick) or u use the driver cd-rom supplied by manufactor.

Ok cool, thanks. Since its an old Dell system, with a Dell Monitor, how do I go about trying to find the driver? Contacting Dell? My friend no longer has the original CD for the monitor. Thanks.

Is it a video card or an on-board video? If so, resetting the CMOS ram would probably reenable it.
