Hello all.

I'm trying to do a rlogin from a solaris box to a linux AS 3.0
but I'm still stuck because linux always ask for password for
the root user.

I have already enable all protocols (rsh, rlogin, rexec) but still can't get the fully access!!!

IPTABLES is already off.

Please help, regards.

you maybe check file /etc/securetty,sure has pts/0.
example:
console
pts/0
pts/1
pts/2
pts/3
vc/1
vc/2

There are several mechanisms for allowing password-less
logins. As you are using rlogin, I will suggest none of them since the r-services are deprecated and any security conscious
individual would disable them.

I only want to enable rlogin to make a remote client install, from a backup software. After that I will disable this access.

/etc/securetty already has pts/0 as well as the entries rlogin, rsh and rexec.

The system has ssh installed. Do I need to disable it?

It still prompt me for password?? Does anyone knows what is missing?

checking the obvious:
Have you correctly set up a .rhosts file?

yes, it exists in root home directory and / with full read access.

The contents are:

host +

I'm lost on this. perhaps is because I'm trying it from a difrente Operating System, from solaris to linux!!! I don't think so but...

Thanks,

full read access ??
As far as I know, it should be 600.
But your Linux may differ ..

If anyone can help I apreciate, otherwise...

???
dont understand you last post, sorry.
Perhaps my last one was not quite clear either.

Did you try 'chmod 600 .rhosts' ?
My man pages for rhosts say that permissions must be 600.
I suggest you should either
* read what your man pages say -or
* just try it.

Another idea:
A + sign in a .rhosts file will work on most (or all) flavours of Unix. Maybe your Linux is more restrictive here.
So try with username instead, unless your man pages expicitely allow it.
hope this helps.

Hello.

I have already made that try.
It still asks for the password!

Can Anyone make this test??
