I need some help with this my vendor is trying to tell me that it is a two or three hour chargeable thing to enable encryption on our system from what I understand enable encryption consists of a license file obtained from avaya system parameters edited and the check mark enabled in the codecs. does that sound about accurate.

excuse any bad grammar in this message is from my phone

Yup. That's about right.

Consider the following:
-A License Activation Code, SAP order, PO#, functional location number for your site, comcodes, PLDS host IDs, accessing your system and loading that and untangling any discrepancies there is at least 2 or 3 hours with Avaya's IT service desk.

Also, consider that in SIP with Avaya, you may not have encrypted media unless you have encrypted signaling - so, TLS. In H.323, yes, just check the box, but in SIP it may not be that simple.

So, 2 hours to get an apply that license is realistic - maybe not something palatable to a customer, and I understand, but it does usually take something like that to get it done.

During change of ip-codec-set(s) there can be outage - maybe your vendor taken this into price (time to campout busy media-resources and bring them up, work OoH etc ?). Two hours seems 'cheap'.
