Enabling a button on record change 1

Looking through the possible events (onchange onopen etc.) I cannot find an event for when one changes from one record to another within same form.

I would like some buttons and features to enable themselves based on particular information in a record. i.e. a button which leads me to a separate form to add new owner, only enabled if the field owner is null.

I can not see how to do this without having an event that checks every time i change record. Does this exist? If not is this possible another way?

Does the onCurrent event not do this? I think that moving from one record to the next will trigger the onCurrent event.
