I have an Me machine that has been restricted and i need to unrestrict it. The run command has been disabled. I want to re-enable it, but havnt been able to do this through the registry. I have copied the registry from a machine that has the run command and imported to this machine, but still it isnt there. How has this been done?

Thnx

I've seen this on a couple ME machines, it may not be security restrictions, but rather a damaged operating system and/or registry.

You already copied the registry over from another machine, which was a bad move.

Your best option is to backup all data, format and reinstall the OS.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

STEP1. Click Start
STEP2. Click Settings
STEP3. Click Taskbar and Start Menu
STEP4. Click Advanced Tab
STEP5. Click CHECKBOX from the "Display Run" Profile to
Display the Run Command in the Start Menu.

STEP6. Click the OK command button.

I am trying to run scan disk in safe mode (as I continue to get the "windows or another program is writing to this drive..." and I have disabled/shut down every program I can think of). This is a friend's computer. She has a logitech keyboard and I am unable to get into setup by the ctrl, del or F8 keys. Can I get to safe mode thru the run command?

i don't believe you can get to safe mode thru the run command. safe mode is different than the setup program.

i don't know your computer but try shutting down windows. after the windows is shutting down screen press and hold the shift key until you see that funny hour glass that goes with safe mode.
