Hi Guys,

On an R8.1, I am trying to enable MAPI on a UC110 however the menu is greyed out.. Any ideas?
The MAPI service is already installed and enabled on an external WINDOWS server.

Thanks
Sam

Come on Guys, I know you have some great ideas/Hints :)

Appearently MAPI is not used a lot, at least I have never done it.

Mapi should only be used as a last resort (when the customer is incapable of correctly configuring their mail server for SMTP) it has historically been less than reliable, even on windows based VM Pro servers.

in all honest I have not used it since SMTP support was introduced.

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.

Erm, MAPI isnt supported on Linux (which is what the UC110 runs on) (or at least its not natively supported) Its a Microsoft thing developed by MS.

HSM, Avaya supply a MAPI gateway for this purpose.
The original note says the Mapi Service has already been installed on an external server.

I still think it is a bad option & should be strongly discouraged.

Thank you all.
We have tried every single thing to get the IMAP service on an external windows server to integrate with the linux based VM Pro.. The IMAP option is still greyed out.

The problem is that my client doesn't want to delete messages twice or still have the MWI on after playing a VM message back via outlook. At this point, I think we will need to deploy a UMS exchange solution to have their VM fully integrated with outlook with two way communication.

Please let me know if you may come up with other ideas :)

Regards
Sam

If you insist then perhaps you can follow the link I posted.
That contains a link for vmpro on linux
That doc tells how mapi should be configured.

The link I posted alluded to having to re-install stuff to get it to work.

So we need 3 servers to complete this MAPI integration
1. a Linux server for the VM Pro (or UCM)
2. Avaya MAPI proxy/ Client downloaded from the VM Pro
3. a Microsoft Mapi (exchange component) on a 3rd the server

No wonder why this solution is not reliable then :)

The MAPI client can go on the Exchange server if the customer IT allows.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Sizbut,
Microsoft does NOT support exchange component and a MAPI client on the same machine that is the problem

A solution from Avaya:

Details
Having trouble with MAPI integration on UMS. Outlook configured for default client, "no suitable email client on the computer", "MAPI library initialization failed".
Server 2008 R2 VMWare, IP Office 8.1.930 / VMPRO / UMS / MAPI
Problem Clarification
New deployment of UMS services using MAPI. Not able to select MAPI from VM Pro email settings - Greyed out.
Cause
Starting with Exchange 2007, neither the Messaging API (MAPI) client libraries nor CDO 1.2.1 are provided as a part of the base product installation. As a result, there is functionality missing that many applications depend on. Microsoft Exchange MAPI and CDO 1.2.1 provide access to these APIs.
Solution
Install Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1.
