I am a novice onsite administrator for our Norstar Voicemail System 4.0. I have added and deleted mailboxes previously and had no problems. However I have recently added 4 new employees and none of their recorded names are showing up in the company directory. (2 of them are on previously used extensions and 2 are new extensions.)I have checked that the company directory option is turned on and that their mailboxes have been initialized. They can use them as usual it is just that their names are not in the directory. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Have they recorded their name in the mailbox? Have them get into their mailbox, press Admin & then press 1.

They recorded their names during the voicemail box initialization. I had them check it and all were already recorded but still are not found in the company directory.

When callers hear your main greeting, do they hear "press # for a company directory" , or "press 1 (or 2, 3, 4, whatever)"?

Did you type their names in to the mailboxes when you set them up? It is that name, not the recorded name, that the company directory depends on. When the user logs in to their mailbox their name should show on the phone display.

There's also a check box for "show in company directory" that has to be checked. (Often left unchecked for bigwigs, etc, who don't want to be bothered.)

emk

If the callers press # for the directory, polarbear85's post is the definitive resolution to your trouble.

If they press a digit, then you'll have to change your CCR tree.

Thank you for all those attempting to help me.

Yes I had to type in the employee's name when setting up their mailbox and yes their name displays on their phones when accessing their voicemail box.

The other question asked me was whether when calling into the company we press the # sign for the company directory. Note; we do have 1 & 2 choices after that for different depts within our company. But to reach our company directory we do press the # sign.

I do not have a "checkbox" to choose the company directory however in our menu driven set up I have to say "yes" to want the employee's name in the company directory. I have also checked to make sure this option is set to "yes" in the administrative portion of our system.

Any other ideas?

Has he initialized his mailbox???
If a mailbox is not initialized eg: record name and changed password etc. the mailbox will not appear in the directory.

Yes..the mailbox has been intialized.

Could there be a limit on the amount of recorded voicemails in the company directory as I know we have a limited number of extensions we can use on our system.

what does it say whan log into vm under feature 983 and prss 9"will show release" are u sure you dont have a flash and are maxed out and r using info mailboxes

Once I log and then press 9 it shows NVM 4.0.04C and gives me the choice of Ok...I am wondering if I have reached the system's limit but I don't know how to find out for sure. Help!!

When you press # to use the directory & then press # again to cycle through the names, does the recorded name appear?

NVM 4.0.04C should not have a limit to the number of mailboxes allowed. BUT... you may have a failing hard drive... do you have the "Enough Disk" message when going into F915 (or whatever it is defined as on your system)?

When I press # to use hte directory & Then press# again to cycel through the names the recorded name DOES Appear but someone calling into the system would not know to do that to chose them.....

bwtc---I do not understnad your question about the enough disk space when I go to F915 it asks for a password and none of my passwords work for this so I can't retrieve any info.

Did you enter the names in the same fashion (Last,First LAST,FIRST Last,F LAST,F) as other mailboxes? I take it that you are using a , between the last & first name? Last name on a NAM must be entered first.

Is their COS the same as mailboxes whose name appear when someone uses the dialpad?

The F915 password should be in your docs. If you search here, I'm sure you can find it. But, since the name does appear when cycling through the directory, methinks that it is not a disk problem.

Yes, I did check how I entered the names:
Last name,First initial.

Everything is the same as all other employee mailboxes.

If you can do f980 and enter their name and find them, then there is no reason they cannot be found in the company directory. try rebooting the voicemail, it might have lost the extension. If it still does not work you are the first NAM on the planet that has a directory problem. 4.0.04c is pretty much bullit proof. Could it be that the mbox is an info mbox instead of a subscriber mbox?

When I do F980 their names are not found in the company directory. We did try to reboot and it did not help. Still could not find names in the company directory. I know it is not an info box as I have already checked that many times.

Any other ideas?

how about
first delete mboxes
then make sure autoset is turned off
power down vm
reboot ksu
after ksu up
power up vm
..

dead chicken and/or virgin sacrifice is optional

Have you checked to see if the system is programmed to look for first name, last name or both and is the directory enabled?
