Hi, I'd like to preface this by saying that I'm completely new to phones; I have a technical background in IT, but most of the settings in the eMG80 interface are alien to me, so I hope you'll be patient as I'm interested in learning but am not sure where to look for help. Anyway, I'm trying to get our eMG80 to register our first IP phone - an LIP-8040L

As far as I'm aware, the eMG80 comes with 2 free VOIP licenses (which I assume apply to the LIP-8040L), so I assumed setup would go something like:
1)Plug in & turn on LIP-8040L
2)Enter network settings & direct phone to eMG80's IP address
3)Settings found, station number automatically applied
4)Victory!

However, that doesn't seem to be the case, and I can't seem to figure out what I should be doing, or any clues as to what's going wrong. I set the phone on the same IP/Subnet/LAN as the eMG80 and plug it in, but the phone keeps coming back with the error message "No Ack (MFIM#1)"

I have successfully set the phone to get it's IP via DHCP, so I know that the network connection is working on the phone, and I can access the eMG80's web interface, so I know that its connection is okay too.

Do I need to prepare the eMG80 first? Could it be a licensing issue? Also, I'd be interested in updating the firmware on the phone in case that's part of the problem, but I can't seem to find firmware for the phones anywhere. Ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks for your patience :)

Ed

try to enter the phones mac address in the registration table(PGM235).

Thanks for the suggestion. I've now entered the phone's mac address into the registration table(235). I assume the Device ID should match the "input device number" on the phone's setup, and a maximum port of 1? After those changes, the phone still starts saying "No Ack"

I also tried entering the phone's mac/password into "Remote Device Register(442)" but this did not work either.

Thanks again,
Ed

I have been told that Input device number is not used in LIK/UCP/eMG systems.
In the phone the MFIM IP of the active profile should match the eMG80 IP.

You can try a virtual registration or have a look in the overview if there
are enough available stations, licenses.

You pointed me in the right direction and I can't thank you enough! In the overview there was a "Device ID" list, which had models of phones and their IDs. I found the model of my phone and changed the Device ID in the Registration Table(235) you mentioned earlier to reflect the one given in the list, and the phone now works :)

So relieved! Thanks!

[Edit] Well that was short lived. The phone keeps saying "Dialing too late" and can make other phones ring, but does not send / receive any audio :(

Hi

May be worth defaulting the handset (When the display reads 'Connecting' dial 33328580. This will reboot, wait for it to fail, enter the programming, just change the MFIM address and make sure 'Same Lan as MFIM' is on, DHCP is off, Local/Remote is set to local. If you have dip swicth 3 OFF the system will allocate the handset an IP address from PGM102.

You may have changed other settings which could affect the audio. This only take a couple of minutes.

Ok, Press Trans *#..... TRANS/PGM..... the transfer key?.......sigh!

I think eMG80 has only dip switch 1 and 2 but to set the phone to local is a good idea.

Your right about dip switch 3! No need for it as you cant plug and play.

I reset the handset as suggested, but I'm still having issues with the handset saying "Dialing too late" - when the handset displays that message dialing in gives the busy tone, and you can't dial out. You need to pickup/replace the handset to bring it back to life (for another 20 seconds). Still no audio in calls.

The handset has been assigned the IP in the System IP Range offered by the eMG80 (102). I'm not sure of the process that the phone uses, so have no idea how to troubleshoot this one :(
