I need to archive some users email as we are approaching the 75 GB limit on our Exchange IS. I was going to use exmerge to archive email older than 4 years but I am not sure if I am going to break single instance storage on the information store. From searching it seems like the SIS is only broken if you re-import the PST, am I right?

Thanks in advance!

If you're removing items by exmerging out, then, if you remove the last instance of something, it gets removed from the server. If you're not removing the last instance of something, then there is no change.

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

YZMMV. As Pat states, there is no reduction until the last copy is removed and then deleted items retention expires. You'd be better off upgrading to allow a larger store size.

We are going to upgrading shortly I was hoping for a quick short term fix. Thanks for the info!
