I am in the process of extending a volume group. However, I am little confused!

I already have EMC hpowerdisks on my system. When the SAN admin assigns more luns, what will I see when I do lspv? Do I need to do anything special to see new EMC (unassigned) disks?

TIA!

thanks for the quick response.

Now will I see any pvids on these new disks? How can I distinguish a new disk and an old disk?

if you do an lspv before adding the new disks, and an lspv after adding them, you will know which ones are new. Also, assuming all of your hdiskpowers are already in VG's the new ones will not be assigned to any VG's.

very cool! Thanks for the good and SIMPLE post!

after you run cfgmgr you will see the news disks normally no pvid and no vg assigned

you can also do two things:

powermt display dev=hdiskpowerxx -> will show you disk paths (ex: hdisk3 and hdisk4)

powermt display dev=hdiskx -> will show you which hdiskpower this disk is part of
