I have tried to program a mailbox to transfer callers to a cell phone when they press 2 or *2 but nothing happens. I can't seem to find documentation for programming this feature. I have entered the cell number in the Breakout 2 for user 201 but it still won;t work. I would like to Centrex Flash if possible because we only have 4 analog lines to use so I don;t want to tie up to many lines. IS this possible using Embedded VM IPO 500 v2 7.0

Release 7.
System> Telephony> Inhibit off switch/forward transfer (Untick)
Line> Analogue Options> Allow analogue trunk to trunk connect. (Tick)

Good luck getting the trunks to release once the call is completed. Try:
System> Telephony> Unsupervised Analog trunk disconnect handling. Your call.

Never done centrex flash- is that like secondary dial tone on the same line?

Thanks. I have used Centrex flash for years and years on Nortel systems. Flash the line then dial the phone number string then release and the CO keeps the connections. This allows the customer to get use of their line again.

One more thing I am trying to get is an internal dial tone on teh ALS instead of line 1. I want the user to be able to dial internal extensions number and then dial a 9 for outside. Any suggestions?

Is this system in Quick (Partner) mode? If so, in the Button Programming section, near the bottom of the screen, put a check in Modify ALS programming, then press the Clear ALS button. After that, click on the Intercom buttons above, followed by the Line buttons. That will set your ALS order.

Also, if it's in Quick mode, I don't think Centrex transfer is a possibility. You would need to use Remote Call Forwarding, like on a Partner system. Twinning may also be a possibility for that release (R7), but I've not tried it.

I blame Avaya.

Thanks the cell phone transfer works just fine.

THis system is in IP Standard Mode

How did you finally get this to work? I've been thinking about doing the same thing for a really small customer, using the 3-way calling feature to connect to the cell phone instead of grabbing a new line to connect to the cell phone.

I still have not been able to do this. I have a friend at Avaya and he is checking for me to see if there is a work around.

I must say that I have been VERY disappointed with the IPO in regards to several of these simple standard features that have been around for over 20 years on other systems like flash from VM and AA other simple basic things like Background Music via the handset speakers. You would think that these developers and engineers never thought to review the best and stands of phone system fro the last 40 years and make sure these standard features were parts of the basics of the IPO.

I keep scratching my head wondering why some of these well used features are not there. The simple and easy to use Park is another one it is now only available on 9.0 and still does not work with the older handsets SURPRISE! I had a clients upgrade just to get the old Nortel Park back and because they have 2420s ad 5420's it will not work.

I will let you know if the work around works.

They have
unfortunately many customers persist in trying to operating in a way that had become obsolete 30 years ago & have bee superseded by more efficient ways of operating.

if you try to make an IP office work like a BCM (which was obsolete when it was launched, being simply a PC bolted to an outdated discontinued key system) you will be disappointed.

Have you tried reading the Help Files?

Centrex Transfer Short Code Operation The short code feature Flash Hook can be used with system short codes. It can be setup with or without a telephone number in the same way as a Flash Hook programmable button detailed above. The line group must be the group of analog lines from the Centrex service line provider.

have you tried creating a short code for the divert & then setting the mailbox option 2 to transfer to that short-code?

Another feature that former Nortel customers moan about, is not being able to see IN THE SCREEN if the person you are calling is currently on the phone; the background music I don't care about (stream from your PC or buy a goddamn radion; it's mono crappy sound anyway), and the Centrex transfer, well, you have an embedded (read:basic) VM that comes free; now it supports it but VM Pro is miles ahead of Call Pilot; that coming from a (former) Nortel fanboy.

Being able to see the remote party as busy, though, that's a big one and easy to implement.

It's already there, sort of. User-button blinking [smile]
And if you have VMPro, you can do some fancy programming to alert busy in display & audio (for the external calls).

Kind regards

seeing that the user is on the phone and then hit "Callback" "Send Message" or simply wait and leave a message would be appreciated by me too as I rip out mostly Nortel systems and users have gotten used to it and if they get additional features without losing any they are really really happy rather than just picking on the stuff they lose they will not see the betterments of the new system

This is not an issue of trying to make a new phone system act like an older phone system. This is an issue that customers need and require and expect a system to provide certain ways to work within their company and that some tried and true phone system features and equipment stand the test of time and have become a standard way to use a phone system.

For example would you say the the HOLD button which has been on handsets of many old phone system for decades and is a required and expected feature and equipment part for a handset is trying trying to make a new phone system act like and old phone system. No in fact it is an old feature and part that is part of all new phone system handsets, it is expected to be there by the customer.

I not only install but I am a call center trainer and I have to look at this from not only the installer and programmers side but from the customer and users side as well. Just because a feature or part is from an old system does not mean that it is not needed on a new system.

Another case in part is the steering wheel on every car, it is needed and expected by the user.

I rest my case.

This had nothing to do with being an old feature or not, this has to do with product knowledge and proper preparation.
When you know the customers demands you sell the right system.
