I'm not 100% sure that this is the right forum to be posting this on, but it's as good a start as any.

Since installing our FB V1000 we have been unable to send emails to a large customer of ours. I can see now rhyme or reason as to why this is (not) happening. the error I get when trying to telnet on port 25 is this:

421 4.0.0 mailgate01.barclays.co.uk Server error

we aren'tusing SMTP proxies as this was thought to be the cause of the problem, I'm stumped, can anyone shed any light on the subject?

A little more information please. I assume you are using the SMTP packet filter. What version of the Watchguard software are you using?

What email server are you using?

Hi, thanks for replying.

Yes we are using a packet filter, as we were advised that the proxied filters weren't very good. We've got ver 6.2 with the latest service packon the firebox itself. Our main email server is Exchange 5.5 but it uses GFI Mailessentials to send smtp mail.
Hope this helps.

Interesting that this is the only domain where you are having trouble. Is Barclay's blocking you, or are they performing a DNS lookup?

If they are performing a lookup, is your isp providing a reverse lookup for your mx record?

I haven't looked into the mx record yet, thanks for the suggestion.

So far as Barclays is concerned, trying to get hold of anyone who admits to knowing about thier systems is nigh on impossible!!!
