Email .xls as attachment 1

I am using the Spreadsheet::WriteExcel module for the first time. I create a spreadsheet in a directory. If I ftp to that server I can download the spreadsheet and read it just fine.

So I decided to mail it using MIME::Lite. It appears to come through OK to my email client (Outlook), but when I double click the spreadsheet attachment, Excel responds with the error:

Unable to read file

Any body have any ideas?

I wasn't closing the excel document. Once I issued $workbook->close(), MIME::Lite mailed an openable attachment
