Hi,
I'd like to know if it's possible and if so how to take an email and forward it on as a fax using a Cisco Router.
Hope I can help you out in the future.
Thanking you all in advance.

Paul,

Cisco modem modules are able to dial out as an ordinary modem and send your faxes or even receive them, but in order to do conversion between email or attachment contents and fax signals (in fact a kind of print drivers) you need something like CGIfax, FaxPress or RelayFax.

Experimenter,
thanks for that.

Experimenter,
I have a 3640 with Mica Modems, is it possible to run "off ramp" type configs for this and is RelayFax available for the 3640??
I looked on the Cisco Site and they had a solution using the an SMTP Server and a AS5300 with "off Ramp" Faxrelay software.
Thanks
Paul

Paul,

I think that off-ramp term belongs to VoIP and faxing on VoIP modules not normal analog or digital modems.

If you let me know the URL of mentioned solution in Cisco.com, It may be helpful for both of us.

Thank you

Dear Paul,

You are right about solution but I'm afraid that MICA modems are not right tools for that purpose. You will need VoIP modules.

Experimenter,
can you please explain why Mica Modems are not the right tools and why VoIP are the right choice?
Thanks again
Paul

Sure paul, MTA command set requires VoIP hardware. On your 3640 for instance NM-2V and NM-2FXO/S might be used.

Of course I'm new in it and my knowledge is based on what I understand from Cisco articles you redirected me to and some others, so you might want to talk to a person with hands on experience.

Sorry for not being helpful.

Paul,

I gave a try to solution on my VoIP GW. Now I can practically say it works, 100%. So it won't work on MICA modems.

Hope that I could help.

Good luck
