Email stuck in queue

We are using 2003 SBS and looking at the Exchange queues, there is a "SmallBusiness SMTP connector" queue which shows that there is a message in it and in the Additional queue information panel below, it says "The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink".

Looking at the message properties, it shows the sender was postmaster@ourdomain.co.uk and the recipient is an address known to us.

I have two questions: firstly, under what circumstances does postmaster send out emails anyway (we have no specific user or account of this name) and secondly, I can send an email to the recipient from home, so why might this error arise in Exchange?

Many thanks.

That could be an NDR message, which could show the postmaster as the sender.

And, technically, you are required by RFC to have a postmaster address.

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I had forgotten that NDR emails back to sender must come from someone. Some while after my initial post, the message disappeared from the queue so presumably the SMTP protocol event sink issue solved itself. There are a few technical issues here which I do not fully understand but I think for now, I shall leave it unless problems occur in the future.
