Need some help guys. Client computer is connected to our SBExchange Server 2003 and the user is receiving messages just fine. The problem is when 'sending' an email, it gets stuck in the outbox and never gets sent to the sent folder. The email is simple text with no attachments.
Looking for thoughts.
Addional Notes: Outlook has the status bar as connected.
Thanks,
TZeus

look at the SMTP address in Outlook for the client - seems like this is incorrect - esp if able to receive ok.

Look under Tools > Options > Mail Setup tab

There is a send receive upon connect checkbox. There is also options for Send/Receive which you can change there.

If that doesnt work answer these questions for me.
Does he need to click send/receive to receive the messages or they just come in every 5 minutes or something?. Also is there any error messages that pop up after a while? like SMTP timeout or anything?

Hello adrianc85,

Send receive is setup for every 5 minutes. There are no messages regarding SMTP. The status indicates online. When the user sends an email, it is displayed in the Outbox as italics and just sits there. When I click on Send/Receive, nothing happends, it stays there.
Looking for help.

Outlook 2003; XP Home laptop; peer to peer network; email from own website domain, hosted remotely.

I have a client with the exact same issue. He is recieving mail from a POP3 account, no exchange server locally, but cannot send. The email just won't go. I have dragged the stuck email to the Drafts folder, opened it, and hit send, and SOMETIMES it will be sent.
Very frustrating and he needs a fix.
Please HELP!

In general these issues are usually related to a corrupt Outlook profile. Using Control Panel, Mail, create a new Outlook profile. This profile can point to the existing .pst file, but account information will need to be recreated. If that cures the problem, you can then delete the damaged profile.

Thanks for the advise.
I will get back to the forum to let everyone know if this cures this seemingly common bug.
Thanks again
Gary

I am running Outlook 2000.
Is this new profile setting different in 2003?
Or did you mean set up a new user profile for XP?

No, this would be the Outlook profile, not the Windows user account. Depending on Windows XP's control panel setup, you might need to Switch to Classic View to see the Mail applet where you can create a new profile.

Hello eveyone, quick updated: I downloaded/installed Microsoft's latest junk mail filter update (5/12/05) and it resolved the issue. I believe the junk mail filter installed in April may have been corrupt, so the latest one updated it and no more emails stuck in sent box. Thanks for all the help.

Had the same problem but the fix was not the Junk Email filter.

Running Windows XP - SP2, Outlook 2003, Exchange 2003. Issue was the Win XP SP2 firewall was turned on. Turned it off to resolve.
