I have setup email server setting in server configuration and in virtual server setting also but still when i add user and check the options of send email. It says like this

"The user or users have been added successfully, but there was an error in sending the e-mail message. The server may not be set up correctly to send e-mail. To verify that e-mail is configured correctly, contact your server administrator. "

Is there any thing else i need to do.

I would post this in the Exchange Server Tread forum955. It sounds like your sharepoint is setup correctly but you exchange server is not sending the email.

When frustrated remember, in the computer world there is almost always a backdoor.

Thank you but I am not having any exchange server in my system.

What are you using then to relay your email?

Some other thoughts...Are you allowed to relay from your mailserver? I have seen this problem when they actual e-mail server does not allow relaying.

I have also had problems with Antivirus software that by default blocks the default SMTP port 25, which results in the same error.

Easy way to test is just to open a telnet session against your mailserver from the sharepoint servers, if you get a connection refused/fail then you are not allowed to relay via that server.

example; from a command prompt on the sharepoint server type: telnet your.mailserver.com 25

Cheers,
Thomas
