I am at a loss as to how to get an answer to this, so here I am.
I have a CS 10.0.0 installation, update 13 to be specific, not that it matters. I can't get notification working. I keep getting 530 authentication errors. I can get emails in and out to work with a JIRA installation on the same server connecting to the same hosted email provider. But not Content Server. I can't call OT Support because we don't have a service contract with them, being just a partner. My email provider is no help either.
Anyone have expertise in this area?
I don't even care about elink, just notification. I just want my customers to know when I post new patches and new module versions.
Thanks,
Tammy

If you are talking about Notification and by that I mean you go to your personal notification and click one of the 3 reports and set a schedule up,it relies on two main concepts.

1)This livelink server's ability to send email(SMTP).There is a TEST button in that area.
2)The actual notification process that consists of many agents 8999,9000,9001 and 9999 such like.

From your post the mail client from livelink oscript cannot login to the SMTP server.Do you have a SMTP server typical port 25 running on the same box?Usual problems are the livelink service user does not have mail sending privilegesa.k.a does not allow login to the mail server. To check that logon to the box as the livelink service user and see using the same SMTP settings you have on livelink whether you can send
mail. When I was in consulting I would have to carry livelink servers in my laptop and was not necessarily connected to company domains where I could use one of the SMTP servers. But I was able to use my personal email like yahoo or gmail to prove notification working.I guess this is kind of what you want.I had written a document for that.I will see if that will help you.

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

I found the thread in KB where I tried using my personal mail account to configure SMTP in livelink

Thank you!
We are using 1and1.com for our company email, so that mail server is not on any server that GCI owns. I can create an email user on 1and1.com, and make it the same name of the Windows user that runs Content Server, but I don't think will make a difference. I don't have any mail server on the physical server that is running Content Server, but I can install one if needed. Can I redirect mail from a local one to 1and1.com? I want email to get to the real outside world.

I beleive you can from what I know a SMTP service just needs to go from server to server. In fact if you pay like $25 on a product like
Mercury Mail I beleive I have used that also to do routing.Frankly dont rememebr all the details.
If your livelink is IIS creating a SMTP server on that is about 10 minutes,I beleive all I used in my experiment is from mail(localhost@25) I followed that article to
get to my gmail account and lo and behold everything worked.
