Hello,

I run a small Exchange 2000 server. Today, for no reason that I can tell email stopped sending out. From Outlook it leaves the Outbox and appears to have been sent. But after someone brought it to my attention, I can see the messages sitting in the Queue of the SMTP service in Exchange's System Manager.

I reboot the server and it still doesn't seem to be working... how do I force it to send these messages?

BTW, it doesn't seem to be all message. I can send messages to my home account no problem, but other messages just aren't going out.

Thank you so much for the help!

Never mind, folks. I got it worked out. It was related to a DNS issue I'm having.

Thanks anyway.

Well... rebooting the server works for me. But the cause is something corrupting in the DNS servers on AD after a period of time...

If your reboot dosn't work... you may have to look at it closer to find a bigger problem.

I had a similar problem just before xmas. It was a DNS problem.

First of all I would do a ping, tracert etc to the domain(s) you are having a problem sending to, then contact your ISP.

I use our ISP to route all our email now.

How did you correct the DNS problem? Did you setup your ISP as a SmartHost? I've changed the DNS servers and can ping the domains that are having issues sending mail to.

How did you correct the DNS error? Did you setup a smarthost? I am able to ping the domain(s) in question and have changed the DNS servers I was using.
