Outlook 2000 running on WIn 98. My outlook freezes up everytime I open it. Lots of email to save in the folder though. I have migrated the email accounts to Outlooks express works great.

How do I save the files in Outlook before I have done an Archive?

Is there a way to retain the data from outlook to a different location before I reinstall Outlook 2000, so I can go back into the files and save the emails I want to read later?

Have you tried exporting the folders? Select the highest level of your folders e.g. Outlook Today - [Personal Folders] Then:
File>Import and Export>Export to a file>Personal Folder File (pst)>Personal Folders [check include sub-folders]>location
Then you can import them back in after you re-install Outlook.
Or have I misunderstood your problem?

In response to your post, I am unable to access any part of the application. Once the program begins running, the system locks up and I am not able to export files or move to a file, the only action I am able to accomplish is [CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL] twice to reboot. The Whole PC locks when I attempt to open the application.

I have not done this but will when I get home this afternoon with the /Safe /Nopreview and hope this allows me to begin an archive session. That would be my best bet.

To both of you,
I did find in the root of the outlook application the associated inbox.pst and deleted.pst and contacts.pst I have copied them over to anothe folder for archive, but in the inbox may be the corrupt email. What do you consider the risk of reinstalling the application and pointing to the new copy as an archive? would it be potentially as bad or not as bad since it should be viewable as an archive? And would renaming the inbox.pst to Archiveinbox.pst, would there be any code that would make it unreadable later?

Thanks for the help
