I have an excel document I want to send to someone throuhg email, but do not want them to edit/save it. How can I make that document a read-only document.

We have tried to make the file read-only through windows explorer, but that does not work.

We have used the option in excel to make the document read-only, but that does not work.

All cases listed above, the receipent was able to update and save the document.

Thanks,
Ken

If you goto Tools > options > security

you can set passwords to open, and passwords to modify.

You can't prevent a user from saving it, unless that user has NO permissions to write anywhere. (i believe)

Also, the user may still be able to modify and "save as" a different name.

I lay claim to nothing and everything. My words may be wisdom or disaster. In the end you make a choice. Noone is perfect.

By accident, I discovered a way to send an Excel as an Email which was impossible to open, change etc. It ends up going as the BODY of the Email Message (rather than as an attachment).
Right now I am not sure how I did it, but think it was something like "Send as HTML".
It arrives to be viewed perfectly but you can't touch it.
If you don't solve this, I will dig up the result and send you a copy by email (so you can see for yourself).
