Current setup is like this:
-Hosted mail service (POP3/SMTP) with the ISP of our main office
-Multiple remote offices each using a different ISP
-Everyone uses some version of Outlook (Outlook 2000 or newer)
Every time someone at one of the remote offices sends mail, it goes out with their ISP's domain information (i.e. user@theirISP.com) instead of the company's domain info (i.e. user@mycompany.com).
How can I make sure that all outgoing mail is sent with the same domain info (i.e. @mycompany.com) regardless of ISP?
From what I've been able to piece together, it seems that the usual way to solve this problem is to ask the remote location's ISP to allow SMTP relaying for the mycompany.com domain. Correct?
What are my options if the remote ISP is unable or unwilling to allow relaying? The only other options I can think of would be to force the remote offices to access their mail through our mail provider's web interface or to have them use VPN connections (in the event that we move our mail service to an in-house server).
Anyone have any other options/suggestions?
