email action in VMPro - what happens when email server down?

What will happen to emails generated by the voicemail system when the email server VM uses is down? Will the emails queue up or fail?

Exchange will try until it goes, so if your email server is down when it comes back up the voice mail should go out.

I am using SMTP, not Exchange/Outlook etc, does the same advice apply?

It should. When you setup the SMTP on Voice mail Pro it goes through a handshaking process and you get errors if it can't talk to the email server.
