My friend's eMachine (T2642) will no longer recognize his digital camera when hooked up. I tried a thumbdrive, and while it recognized new hardware, it errors out. Any advice?

Thanks in advance

Do an SFC /scannow just to see if all windows files are in order. Then check device manager for anything in the USB Controllers category that has an exclamation mark. Try to have it install the driver again. Failing that, delete the device and reboot. Check again in device manager.

You should boot into safe mode and make sure there are no "ghost drivers" present and then try deleting and reinstalling the driver.
