I got an eMac with only problem being a bad ethernet NIC port. Is it possible to replace JUST the NIC port or does the whole logic (mother)board have to be replaced ? I know I can add the AirLink on the front. But the client really would rather have a hard wired Ethernet connection. I could not find any addons to provide another NIC interface. I have not broken open the case (yet). Any hits or tips on these units ?

The ehternet port is on the motherboard, so you'd have to get the motherboard replaced (kinda expensive). There are no official USB to ethernet solutions other than wreless out there. There is some possibility of modifying Unix/Linux drivers to work with OS X and there has been some effort done in this direction out there, but couldn't find anything easily usuable the last time I checked. Onlu real alternative you might have is to use the Firewire over IP protocol in OS 10.2.5 and later to hook into the network via another Mac.

Thanks for the response. Much as I thought. Linksys does make a USB-Ehternet the USB100M but there is no mention of Mac support only PC. I emailed them to see if they support. I will post back when I get feedback.

Linksys, Dlink, and several others make USB - Ethernet adaptors, but none offer any Mac drivers, at least on their website. Frustrating, as for example, Dlink makes Mac drivers for their USB to Wireless Ethernet adaptors. Sigh....
