Hello,

Thank you in advance for any help you might be.... I am an IT guy who know a lot about phone systems.... Here is my delema.

I have a customer that has an NEC elite ipk with SP 1011 R 1.03. 14 Co lines and 10 stations.

Someone before me assigned 10 of the 14 as private lines i think.... If I dial one of the CO numbers assigned to a station the station rings direct. BUT! Somoe of those lines are in the inbound CO hunt group.

It so happens that the Managing Partner's "private line" is on pair 2, the second line in the CO hunt group.

So have changed the CO hunt group through SBC and i now have 5 lines in the inbound hunt group that are not assigned to stations. I moved these lined to the first 5 positions on the punchdown block.

HERE ARE MY PROBLEMS....

1. there are 2 "main line" buttons on each phone but neither works to get an outside line. you must dial 9 to get out. HOW DO I GET THESE 2 BUTTONS TO WORK?

2. You can not get a second CO line from any station so you can not make a conference call. HOW DO I RESOLVE THIS?

3. The receptionist station is a DTH-32D How can i make the first 5 buttons regular line buttons? I.e. they are like a BLF but she could also easily press one of the buttons to get a CO line?

4. I would like to use the 5 lines out assigned to stations for the outbound lines only! They are at posts 1 through 5 on hte block. all the other lines would not be used for out bound hunt. The stations can use their "private lines" for outbound but the rest can be used for call conferencing and
such.

Thank you again in advnace for any help you can be in this!

Suggestions:
First: get yourself a manual.
Second: encourage your customer to put in a PRI or T1. It is rediculous to try to get Direct Inward Dail (DID) to work with a single line pots lines. (a.k.a for single lines or co DIT = Direct Inward Termination).
Third: The SAT program should be very helpful for you as you. You will need the customer have a MIFM card for that.

Once you get the manual (on this web site there have been a number of posting where to download them), look up the concept of CAP key (call appearance key). A CAP key is not a line key representing the phone line. It is a logical button that will represent any CO pointed to that key. That is why you cannot take more than one call or conference. You could program more CAP keys on the phone and then you can conference etc.

1. there are 2 "main line" buttons on each phone but neither works to get an outside line. you must dial 9 to get out. HOW DO I GET THESE 2 BUTTONS TO WORK?

>> see discussion above about CAP keys.

2. You can not get a second CO line from any station so you can not make a conference call. HOW DO I RESOLVE THIS?

>> same answer as above.

3. The receptionist station is a DTH-32D How can i make the first 5 buttons regular line buttons? I.e. they are like a BLF but she could also easily press one of the buttons to get a CO line?

>> Make them co keys see program 4-12

>> ??? If you the CO lines are programmed to be DIT, how would you do this? Anyway, you can restrict outbound on the lines you wish you to use for inbound in 3-02 per trunk.

thank you so much for your response.

I AGREE ABOUT THE T1 PRI. I am coming in late unfortunately and i am stuck with this configuration.

I have a manual and i can make the changes. I am very familiar with programming norstar and panasonic and toshiba systems. This is the first NEC system i have come across.

Thank you.

A poor man's did = dit

Here is a summary of the issues you face when you have a The main issue ot DIT (Direct Inward Termination) with a POTS line instead of a DID:

When you have a second call, where will it roll over to?
---with a POTS line, it will roll over to the next pots line if you have hunting. If you do not have hunting it will get a busy. If you have hunting and it rolls over to the next line and you assigned the next line to someone else, the call will roll over to the next fellow! If that person does not answer, your call will go to his voicemail - not yours.
+++with a DID (T1 or PRI) you will roll over to where ever the station is set to go. Either your voicemail or to another call appearance.

Is there anyway around this? Basically the answer is no. You could get voicemial from the phone company for each line. This way, the call will not get a busy and you will capture your voicmeail. You will need to take off hunting from the phone company on each line.

A PRI will certainly be cost effective. a. 14 x $25 = $350. If you have voicemail on each line it is about $6 x 10 = $60 for a total of $410. A T1 averages about $500.
