New to SQL Server Management Studio, and I have noticed these [ ] everywhere. Driving me nuts.
Is there any option to set (in Tools - Options... or Customize...) to get rid of them?

I did find a 'work around' here, but I would have to do that EVERY TIME

nothing on SSMS to do that - only way is with some third party tools (like SQL Prompt) that have a option to "remove" the bracketes.
Not all the other tools have this functionality.

but do look for them - they are a must have for a sql developer - SQL Complete from Devart or SQL Prompt from RedGate.
there are others but I cant comment on them.

I'm using a free tool dbeaver for databases DB2 on IBM i and SQLite. It supports MS SQL server too. Although I don't know whether it meets your expectations, IMO it's worth to try.
