Eliminate multiple windows

Hello. I have a weird issue. When opening multiple Excel documents there is one instance of excel running. I only see one icon on the task bar. To navigate through various excel sheets I must go to "window" on hte excel toolbar then select the other xls files. I like this method, however it is not replicating in MS word. Is there anyway to change the default opening features of MS word or is this unique to Excel. I've been searching through the options but do not see anything. thank you very much.
 
Found the solution.


Tools-> View -> then uncheck "Windows in Taskbar
