This is a reply I got from my vendor concerning a recently acquired BCM,they stated that you have to have Element Manager to log in to a BCM 4.0 thru the serial interface, I thought it may only be necessary to connect via the LAN. I just purchased a BCM that was upgraded from 3.7 to 4.0 prior to me receiving it and neither the LAN or serial interface will accept the default passwords. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Default passwords are different on 4.0 than they are on 3.7. You need Element Manager to log in via the LAN. Serial interface has been locked down to Nortel Support.

If you don't have the passwords, then you need to speak to those from whom you purchased it.

I am thinking about getting a BCM400 with 4.0 software...what do you mean "locked down to Nortel Support?

On the 3.x BCM's we used to be able to get in through the serial port. We no longer can. But keep in mind that the we do not get in through the web browser but Element Manager.
