We're looking into possibly expanding memory on our Filemaker Server from 1 gig to 2 or more gigs. Would this have a substantial effect on FileMaker's performance, or would we be just wasting our time?

I don't think that memory expansion is gooing to give you much of a noticeable diiference, though it certainly won't hurt.

You would probably be better off upgrading the hard drive to the fastest drive available if you haven't done that already and maybe cache memory.

+ on WIN tweaking the Virtual Memory setting would help its FM serving...deducate a separate NIC & IP for FM serving (if your server is multi-purpose)
New HD is to a PC what a new egnine is to the car :)
Don't give in into RPMs or the GB size of the drive but rahter durabilty and quiality and The Name of the company...and always nice is to go SCSI
a lot of companies are now making MEGA 100+ GB drive for dirt-cheep....WHY? yes, the technology is gotten cheeper but they are making them mostly to satify "my dad's need to store stupid vacation video"....they are not any beeter than the 5 GB ones.....stay away from the "ordinary consumer trap"
OK, I'll stop :) u get the idea!
All the best!
