Editing Reports in Crystal Enterprise

Is it possible to Edit Sub Reports in Crystal Enterprise 10?
Also, is there a good source that gives the limitations of created/editing reports with Crystal Enterprise 10 vs. Crystal Professional 10? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Although you can open,edit and resave Reports already published in Crystal Enterprise, you use Crystal Reports Designer to actually do the work..
CE has a repository of created reports that have been published for web access and it handles the deployment, viewing, etc of them after publishing, it is not a design tool.

Thanks alot for your response.
So things such as adding formula fields, bolding text, arranging the positioning of columns, and adding sub-reports are all limited to the Crystal Report Designer and not meant to be done in CE? So when they are talking about using CE for report creation they are just talking about opening an existing report, perhaps adding a column or two and then resaving it. It seems as if there isn't enough design functionality to support the claim of online report creation at all.

Crystal Enterprise does have web based report creation in the Premium edition.

HI,
I have not found that the ability to create totally new adHoc reports in CE to be worth the extra money, since everyone we allow to design reports has CR Designer..
As a matter of performance management for our enterprise-wide web reporting system we do not want users to be
designing reports on-the-fly where no standards can be enforced and where their actions can degrade performance, or, in a worst case, crash the system.

We have not even 'advertised' the report modification ability we added to our CE10 system and we do not use EPortfolio for the user interface so the user does not even see the option..

In a enterprise system, some control must be imposed to prevent down-time as much as possible.

Personal Note:
Being an anarchist at heart, this was difficult for me to accept, but...

I agree with you but unfortunately for what we are doing we have to allow a wide range of users the ability to create web based ad-hoc reports. Why is EPortfolio necessary to see the inteface? I didn't come across anything saying that it was necessary.

Hi,
We allow report developers ( and we have many) to develop reports but, before they can be published to the web, they must be compliant with standards and must have been performance tuned. Users can develop client/server reports with no restrictions ( except that if that are so badly designed that they impact the database they connect to in a negative way, we can ask that they be redesigned).


The only place I have seen to launch the New Report creation/modification process is from the EPortfolio main page...

But since we do not use it, there may be other ways to launch it that I have not found.
