I need to parse an edi file, that we get.
My PM has given me a edi file, but it has an extention of .txt.

I don't think that this is the raw edi file that I need.
From my investigations on the web EDI does not produce a .txt file. EDI has differnt Extentions like x12 ect..

Any help with this would be great.

When you refer to 'EDI' I assume you are referring to 'EDI/X12'.

The content of the file is whats important. Generally, from my experience, file extention is irrelevant to the data. You need to open the file to determine content.

I've seen .txt, .dat, .x12, .edi, .834, .837, .277, no file extention .........

Hi kss444,

Agree with eyetry
Extention has nothing to do with EDI

Let's say the extension is an envelope and your letter is an EDI message
Whatever the color, size, design or style of your envelope - only your letter needs to be readable and standard to be processed.

Quick example :
we sent EDI files by emails to our Customers. the file attached in the email is *.txt file
we sent also by X400 : no extension as we sent only the data VAN to VAN
