I'm looking for a system that can send/receive/translate various EDI templates (DELFOR, DELJIT, ASN etc.) that is part of an inventory management system. Has anyone had any experience with such a system ?

Thanks

Jeff

there are many, but the edi add on is usually extra.
first i would prioritize - what's more improtant your inventory or edi? i would say that accurate inventory is a higher priority.
next, find inventory mgmt systems that are designed for your industry. that is, if you are in distribution do not get an inventory system that is designed for manufacturing.
once you ahve found some find out what edi solutions their customers utilize or if they have an add on to their mgmt system.
then you need to decide if you want to do the mapping & programming your self or have the 3rd party edi software vendor do it for you.
you also need to consider how this mgmt system and edi will communicate with your accouting system.
a bit more detail and i will try to point you in a good direction.

Basically, we are going to be setting up a warehousing operation. Product will come in, we will warehouse it and then distribute it to several sites. We need to receive the ASN's on inbound material, shipping schedules for outbound and ASN's for outbound. I'd like to be able to receive the goods against the ASN via barcode scanning and update the inventory. For outbound, I'd like to scan the product going out, relieve inventory and generate the ASN.

Thanks

macvicar,
ok. so shipping schedules, 830s if i remember.
product will come in, so you are not manufacturing said product but purchasing it. like i said you will want to find an inventory mgmt software package that is designed for your industry and is based on distribution.
most likely you will be better off with a 3rd party edi solution that can import and export flat files that your inventory system can utilize. the barcode scanning is part of your inventory system, not the edi system.
do a google for some of your suppliers and customers with edi (for example 'walmart edi') you should come up with companies who support, are approved, design software for trading with them.
as for the inventory mgmt software - does your company belong to any trade groups? go to any shows? you will find other distributers in your same field there and can ask them what systems they utilize. you can also start by doing a google say 'distribution inventory management syatems' or refine it and add 'dairy'.

longhair

macvicar,
sorry 1 wrong point in my post shipping schedules are 862s. i assume you will be receiving 830s also?

There are warehouse management programs available that include the EDI documents and communication, and also the bar-code label printing and scanning. You might find it easier to have all the tools in one package, already related, rather than putting pieces together.
