Edge transport servers

I am installing Exchange07 in a test environment just to learn about the messaging platform....
Im having a bit of a problem, I am wondering if you have to install the server a EDGE TRANSPORT server to recive mail?
any help would be grateful,

No, you don't.

You can enable the receive connector on the Hub Transport to receive anonymous email.

Do you have to create both send and recive connectors in order to send and receive mail?

Yes, if you arent using an Edge box then your send connectors are not created automatically for your internet bound email... You will need to specify a send connector for this.
