I have rebuilt a server and installed W2K on it from NT4. After installing Arcserve Workgroup I receive the message when trying to setup a backup job.

go into the ARCserve server admin GUI, click on the admin tab and then select ARCserve system account. Make sure you have an account specified in there with the sufficient ARCserve rights. If you are backing up a remote computer then you will have to consider putting in a domain administrator, then right click on the computer in the ARCserve GUI and select security, then put in the relevant domain admin security and you should be right. If it is a client agent however do the same with the system account, also make sure the client agent (on the client computer) does not have its own password security set.

I have done all of the above. I have checked and set the user account policy rights, share rights to the folders to be backed up and the arcserve share. I have confirmed the user is a member of the appropriate groups
(ie; adminstrators and backup operators). Checked to confirm the user can act as part of the OS, logon locally and logon as service. I have used the same account that was used when installing the software or setup another one with all of the appropriate security and get the same result. Any furhter ideas?

If this is a domain account, try putting the domain name\username, i.e. if you're user bob, in the xyz domain, instead of just bob in the security box, type xyz\bob then your password.

Sounds like you shouldn't have to, I know, but I have to on some of my systems, even if I use Administrator.

I've tried it both ways already and it just doesn't work. The one thing I have noticed is that when I first go into backup manager to setup the job I see the user guest in the gray bar at the bottom of the window. This led me to believe that the system account is using guest but when I go to check it the user name is the one I have given it. It's like there is something somewhere in the registry thats causing this. There is an article in CA's tech support for this specific error but I have done everything that is says to do and I still get the error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the product 3 times with no improvement. I have found a document here that outlines how to completely remove what is left behind after uninstalling but I hesitate to do it because the server I am dealing with is a Lotus Notes server that supports our enterprise network with about 1500 accounts. I do not want to break the registry on this server.

Any other ideas?
