I bought a Sun Ultra 10 off of EBay (bad idea?) and it comes up showing an Ethernet address of all zeros. It sees the network fine - an 'arp -a' shows the machine on the network, again with an all-zero Ethernet address.

I get an error during its boot saying:

Invalid format code in IDprom

How do I correct these problems? TIA!

Randy

i don't think you can correct this, ask 'Sun Microsystems servers' forum, my be you need a new|other idprom chip :( -----------
when they don't ask you anymore, where they are come from, and they don't tell you anymore, where they go ... you'r getting older !

Have you tried ifconfig interface ether 01:23:45:67:89:0a after boot? Almost any random address should be unique!

Doubt that will get rid of the error message though. Annihilannic.

alexzar is correct i have seen this happen before.
