EBA is not crystal reports. It is a series of data cubes built to your specifications. You can of course, write crystal reports off of these cubes if you wish.
I suggest you attend one of the free webinars on EBA to get a full understanding of the product.
Software Sales, Training, Implementation and Support for Macola, eSynergy, and Crystal Reports
We use EBA, but we also purchased the Extebsion Builder. We had to tweak our database with many more indexes than what was there, especially when it came to 'date' driven parameters.
The admin pieces are very 'unfriendly', but the end product out to our users is very friendly. Your power users will have to be just that.
Some of our larger deployed 'cubes' that are not heavily filtered to more senior people required memory upgrades (>512GB RAM) on their PC's/laptops to run.
We recommend appointing a 'leader' in your sales area to devote time to standardising filters, deployment criteria and cube layouts.
They have been talking about financials and eSynergy 'out of the box' without Extension Builder since our training/implementation in March, but as yet we have seen nothing.
The e-Synergy out-of-the-box meta-data and info-types were completed in July, QA'ed end of August have been released in pilot.
Completed (and should be available?):

HRM Request Summary
Currently, some key INTL Exact synergy folk are enhancing the build and testing financial analysis on all platforms, but special focus has been requested for consolidated sites as there are some significant benefits to be had in those scenarios.
Key Notes:
In standard synergy, there is little visibility in request status changes. i.e. in a call center, a critical metrics would include the number of times a call was deemed closed then re-opened, the number of calls that resuslted in a related follow-up (customer complaint, functional request, bug entry, etc.), how many calls were closed on first contact. EBA e-Synergy enables this type of analysis.
In a consolidated e-Synergy environment, there is no true visibility on open/booked orders. You can surface this per division if you are creative and know your stuff, but it is a hack. EBA does providde a solid method for providing sales with detailed reports for all orders, open or otherwise. Pulls from all back office instances in a consolidated view.
Given my choice, would prefer that all consolidated sites have EBA as part of the deal. Likewise, any site doing quotes would make for happier customers and consultants if Interconnect was part of the implementation.
(No sales affiliation with either solution provider, just a genuine gut-level implementor's perspective.)
