I'm looking into buying a new video card for my PC. I have a 2X AGP, and I was looking into buying a card that requires a 4x/2x AGP. Am I right in assuming this card should work on my system? Or has Intel developed a 4X/2X AGP?
Intel has some 4X Motherboards out, and most of the Athlon boards (Via Chipset) have AGP 4X, but a video card that is 2X and 4X should work on any motherboard, also my Geforce DDR, can run at AGP 1X, 2X, 4X so it makes it good for most boards. if the card can do higher than your motherboard, it is typically able to do at lower speeds as well. The card will revert to the standard currently supported by the board. In fact I would bet that most 2x and 4x systems out there have in fact not been enabled; I have found this not so easy to do. (I'm talking about the MB).
Setting the thing up is usually poorly documented.
If you can get your hands on it, use something like Powerstrip to make sure it's actually enabled and working. [sig]
Clive
clive@digitalsky.co.za

[/sig]
To check to see if the 2x or 4x is enabled on your PC, Go into the bios ( setup) on boot up and the enable the setting for the correct AGP speed that your vidio card supports 2x, 4x, (and coming soon to a PC near you 8x) [sig]
Glenn
glenns@wtco.net
<a href=
